[NEWS] B2ST's Kikwang makes cute mistakes on 'Laws of the Jungle in Solomon Islands'

As one of the younger members of SBS's 'Laws of the Jungle in Solomon Islands,'B2ST's Kikwang seemed to have the most trouble in getting used to the harsh environment of the jungle.

On the September 26 episode of the show, Kikwang almost caused a disaster when he leaned on the makeshift jungle shelter that the members set up to sleep under, causing it to slant. However, due to the sturdily crafted work by the members, the shelter didn't crumble.

Kikwang's potentially catastrophic slip was soon forgotten amongst the members as they faced harsh survival missions and it was decided that they would restructure the shelter to make it more sturdy. Kikwang apologized and revealed that he was the culprit to the tilting of the shelter as they were heading back to base, causing the fellow jungle members to chuckle at his adorable mistake.

Despite his silly mistakes, the idol also showed off his masculinity through his night fishing skills where he was given the nickname, 'Harpoon King.' Although Kim Byung Man and Kikwang had to come out of the water due to the unexpected appearance of sharks, Kikwang proved that he was worthy to be a part of the jungle team.

[NEWS] 'Laws of the Jungle' team take on eating bats and lizards in first episode of the Solomon Islands edition

The 'Laws of the Jungle' team were all in good spirits on day 1 in the Solomon Islands, unaware of the hardship that lies ahead!

The part 1 cast which includes, tribe leader Kim Byung Man, Park Jung Chul, Ryu Dam, Kwon Oh Joong, g.o.d's Kim Tae Woo, Kim Gyu Ri, B2ST's Kikwang, and martial artist director Jung Doo Hong, received a startling, yet sweet welcoming ceremony by the inhabitants of the Solomon Islands and got to try the interesting fruits and vegetables that the land had to offer.

But the most eye-catching food were the bats and monitor lizards that the tribe had to eat for dinner. The island residents roasted a dish filled with sweet potatoes, eggs, bats, and monitor lizards that were sauced with coconut milk. Kim Tae Woo was the first one to courageously try the monitor lizard and gave his review, "It tastes like meat. It's a little stiff because it's roasted. But the monitor lizard is okay." Kikwang also commented after taking a bite, "Oh! This is really! It tastes like well-roasted fish."

Ryu Dam was the first to try the roasted bat and shared, "The bat tastes good! It just tastes like smoked chicken. It also tastes like ham. To be honest, it's tasty. But it's a bit hard [to eat] because you know it's a bat. But it's tasty." Kim Tae Woo took a bite as well and shared, "This tastes better than the monitor lizard." Kikwang also gave his opinion, "It was surprising. If you eat this without knowing what kind of meat this is, you would think that this has a good roasted taste."

[FEATURE] The Drama Line in BEAST

“Acting-dol” or idol who does acting is something common in the Kpop world. Lots of idols used the ‘idol’ title on them as a stepping stone to more opportunities in projects other than singing and dancing on stage. Acting in drama is one of them.

This also applies for idol group BEAST. The unique thing in this six-member group is they divide the group into two line, those who we seen often in TV dramas and those who are actively involved in drama musicals.

We have previously discussed about the musical line in the group that consists of member Yang Yoseob, Jang Hyunseung, and Son Dongwoon. This time, we will discuss about the remaining three members – Yoon Doojoon, Lee Gikwang, and Yong Junhyung – who are joining the drama line in the group.

Yoon Doojoon
The leader in the group can be named as the most productive member in terms of acting in TV drama. Sitcom “More Charming By The Day” and “All My Love” , drama “Iris 2″, and “Let’s Eat” are the projects that Doojoon had worked on.

Doojoon started out by starring in sitcom MBC’s daily sitcoms “More Charming By The Day” and “All My Love”. On December 29, 2010, Doojoon was awarded with the Rookie Comedy Award from the 2010 MBC Entertainment Awards for his roles in those sitcoms.

Doojoon then transformed into a smart agent on “Iris 2″ as Seo Hyunwoo in 2012. After playing several supporting roles, Doojoon earned his first leading role as a food blogger and insurance king, Goo Daeyoung in “Let’s Eat” with tvN in 2013. Thanks to his love line with noona (older sister), he was also named as the public’s favorite younger man.

Not only was he involved in TV drama, Doojoon also showed his comical acting skills in the movie “Marrying the Mafia 5 – Return of the Family ” in 2012. He played the character of the kid in the family, Jang Youngmin.

From a small role to big role, from a smart agent to insurance king and comical student, what kind of role can we expext from Doojoon’s next project?

Lee Gikwang
Gikwang is the first member in the group who was involved in an acting project with his role as Kang Saeho on drama “High Kick Through the Roof ” during his earlier debut time with BEAST on 2009.

People started to get to know him and the group, and led to Gikwang appearing in his second drama project, “My Princess”. He played the comical role as Geon Lee, that made him bring home The Rookie Award from MBC Drama Awards in 2011

For his next drama project, “I am flower” in the same year, Gikwang transformed into a cute police officer, Jo Maru. He also appeared as a cameo in Doojoon’s sitcom. Not only that, Gikwang also lent his voice to dub 2012′s animation movie, “Sammy The Adventure 2″, as a fish named Ricky.

Gikwang continued to be involved in another acting project through a special drama with KBS, “My Friend Is Still Alive”. His impressive acting in one crying scene in the special drama, propelled him into popular search term in Korean portals. Gikwang played as Kyeong-sook , a student with disease who wanted to have a girlfriend before he dies.

Gikwang then got another lead role for mobile drama project with CJ E&M, “20s”. He played himself, a member of popular idol group who has a secret love relationship with a commoners. Even though the drama only consisted of four episodes, this mobile drama received lots of love calls from various countries.

Gikwang actually received an offer to play in drama “God’s Gift” this year. But due to his packed schedule, he cancelled to join the casts.

Lets look forward to more projects for actor Lee Gikwang!

Yong Junhyung
Different to the other two members who started their acting journey with small roles, Junhyung took the lead role right away in his first acting project.

Drama musical with tvN “Monstar” in 2013 is where Junhyung gained one of his nicknames, “Yong-star”, which came from the Yoon Seolchan, the character he played is a high school student that dreamed to be a big star.

As a rising star, Junhyung also earned an award from 2013 Korea Drama Awards as the best new actor, thanks to his impressive acting.

Apart from busy being a rapper, producer, and composer, will Jonghyun add the word “actor’ again onto his job CV soon?

Which line in BEAST do you think has better acting talent? The musical line? Or the drama line?

[NEWS] KBS to Air Corrective Report Regarding BEAST Junhyung's Past Comments About Ex-Company CEO

KBS has been asked to take corrective measures after failing to filter through broadcast content of comments made by BEAST’s Junhyung regarding his ex-company’s CEO.

According to laws from the Seoul High Court, KBS was requested to air a corrective report through their entertainment program “Entertainment Weekly” regarding Junhyung’s comment about his ex-company’s CEO, Mr. Kim.

The panel of judges stated, “Even though it is difficult for us to confirm if the comments made by Yong Junhyung are false, it is also difficult to for us to confirm if they were true. Thus, we request that Mr. Kim’s side of the story be also conveyed to the public."

BEAST’s Junhyung had said in an appearance on KBS’s "Win Win” that he had “felt threatened” by his ex-company’s CEO. His comments also appeared in KBS’s"Entertainment Weekly" at a later time.

His ex-company’s CEO, Mr. Kim, claimed that these comments were false and filed a lawsuit for KBS to make corrective reports regarding this matter. At the time, KBS claimed that it was not directly specified that the person Junhyung was mentioning was in fact Mr. Kim, and that the broadcast material was the truth.

Now, “Entertainment Weekly” has 7 days to broadcast a corrective report containing the following material: “Junhyung had only taken an absence without leave at the time, and that it was not the truth that he had quit the company. And it is also not true that the ex-company’s CEO had threatened him and broke a bottle in the process.”

KBS has since stated that it will check with all parties involved in any broadcast content before airing it.

In other news, Junhyung is currently busy preparing for promotions for BEAST’s new Japanese album, “[BEAST JAPAN BEST].” In preparation for this release, BEAST unveiled the music video for a new Japanese song titled “More Than You Think.”

[NEWS] BEAST’s ‘Real Live Concert’, more explosive than fireworks… ‘BEAUTIFUL SHOW’ made 10,000 fans excited

[OSEN] It was a real live concert that we had never seen before in any idol group’s concert. BEAST is famous for their live performance, but the level was totally different. The concert did not even require any common fireworks thanks to their spectacular vocal ability.

BEAST held ‘BEAUTIFUL SHOW 2014’ on 16th at 6 pm in Ilsan Kintex and their performance was great: they were willing to confirm their singing ability while dancing. The group’s 100% pure live performance made the audience think that they were like master musicians, not an idol group.

The concert consisted of 22 songs and the opening song of the concert was ‘Good Luck.’ The members were dripping with sweat singing and dancing on the stage. Lee Gi Kwang who got injured shooting KBS ‘Arts and Physical Education’ said, “My ankle still hurts”, but the audience could not get any hint of his injury without hearing from him.

If there were not 10,000 girl fans filling out the concert hall, it would be hard to see their ballad performance as that of idol group’s. Members made fans to clap their hands to make sound of rain and sang ‘On Rainy Days’ and continued singing ‘Midnight’, ‘No More’ and so on. Lee Gi Kwang made small mistake but he apologized cutely by saying, “I wanted to let you hear my voice first.”

Solo performance was also interesting: Yong Jun Hyung performed ‘Flower’, Lee Gi Kwang sang ‘All Of Me’ and Jang Hyun Seung sang Trouble Maker’s song ‘The Girl Who Wants To Play’.

Among the solo songs, ‘Caffeine’ was the biggest hit: Yang Yo Seop started singing the song and Yoon Du Jun and Son Dong Woon appeared and the three of them sang together, delivering unique feeling.

They seemed that they did not care anything about the spectacle and scale of the concert. There were no fireworks, laser, lifts, and water show. Yang Yo Seop’s high pitched song was more explosive than 10 fireworks. They focused more on dancing and singing, but it was not boring at all.

It’s been already 6 years since the debut and Lee Gi Kwang said, “In the past, whenever I went to hair shops, everyone was older than me, but now they are younger than me. I felt I’m getting old.” Yoon Du Jun also said, “The age of our fans got higher, too. These days, not many fans call us as ‘older brother (Oppa)’.

In the later part of the concert, they sang ‘Breath’, ‘Fiction’, ‘Shock’, and ‘Beautiful Night’: especially, 10,000 fans sang together when BEAST sang ‘Shock’. The fans reaction was also incredible.

Fans from 26 countries including Spain, German, Japan, China, Taiwan and so on visited the concert, and BEAST plans to conduct ‘BEAUTIFUL SHOW’ tour around the world.

Yang Yo Seop said, “Actually, my vocal condition was not so good, so I just hoped for miracle. However, miraculously, as soon as I stood up on the stage, of course there were small mistakes, I could sing well. While performing on the stage, I thought that all of you were our miracle…Thank you so much.” Lee Gi Kwang expressed gratitude for his members and said, “Members had to change movement of the choreography because of me, so they worked really hard.” Yoon Du Jun shouted “Thank you” without using a mike to express his sincerity. They also promised fans to release their album in autumn.

[FEATURE] Cube’s Vice President Noh HyunTae, “‘Order and Discipline within Freedom’ is our motto”

(T/N: This article assumes that Cube Entertainment will be going on a listing with WooriSpac2 soon. Recent news, however, stated that Cube will not be cooperating with WooriSPAC2 due to internal problems. Listing process may therefore be delayed.)

Cube Entertainment is a prominent KPOP global brand that has seen visible growth. Founded in 2008, the relatively new entertainment agency has been making remarkable expansion, and is now standing shoulder to shoulder with SM, YG and JYP Entertainment. Currently, Cube Entertainment houses singers BEAST, 4minute, BTOB, unit group Trouble Maker, gagman Kim Kiri, including Rain, Roh JiHoon, Shin JiHoon, actor Kwak SeungNam in their wholly-owned subsidiary, Cube DC. Cube Entertainment has gained a sales revenue of 22.9b Won last year.

Recently, BEAST has accelerated their promotions in Japan. Last year, they signed an agreement with one of Japan’s largest advertisement company, Hakuhodo DY Media Partners, which were a subsidiary of Hakuhodo DY Group, with a guranteed 8b Won of income. This momentum has driven them to make an entrance to the stock market. We have met up with Cube Entertainment’s Vice President Noh HyunTae to discover the burning motivation of Cube Entertainment that fuels their ever-growing pace.

– The company has been founded for 6 years, and listing on the stock market is right before your eyes.

“This is as a result of President Hong SeungSong’s know-hows and network, employee’s passions and artists’ sincerity coming altogether. In the past 6 years, if we were to describe Cube, you may perhaps call it as ‘a  light that never dies’. The company was always running and continuously challenging to run further. In order to preserve Cube’s identity, which is ‘to be different from the rest’, we have attempted new challenges. As such, being ‘the first’ has a very deep meaning for us. We were the first entertainment agency to hold a KPOP Concert ‘United Cube’ (2011) in South America, our first unit group Trouble Maker (2011) was launched successfully too. 4minute even became the first girl group to hold a solo concert in Europe (2014). As we attempt, there were many errors and problems too, but it was an exciting and priceless experience. It is intriguing and therefore, we work even harder.”

– What is Cube’s motto?

“It’s order and discipline within freedom. Cube is rather a family-like community. Artists and staff communicate with each other very often. President Hong often talks with artists at the same eye level, to gain more understanding and feedback. Therefore, BEAST, 4minute and others often refer him as ‘Father’. Although we do emphasize on a free atmosphere, we have a strong awareness of being different from the others, and that raises our strict requirements.”

– Other than BEAST or 4minute, Cube’s future may need to depend on rookies as well.

“That’s true. As we lead with groups like BEAST, we have to raise rookies too. We have about 20 trainees whose age ranges from primary 3rd year friend to teenagers in the early 20s. Though we have yet to decide on a date to debut a new girl group, we are in our final phase in setting up the team. We are also in the midst of setting up a male rookie team.”

– What would be the strength of Cube’s training system?

“I personally think that it’s humanity classes. In reality, technical classes like dance or vocals doesn’t make a difference with other companies. Other than raising stars with a global brand name, we emphasize on bearing a responsibility for the society. Therefore, we do volunteering works and have psychology and sex education classes. We started on charitable works primarily because of fans. As a token of appreciation for fans’ loves, we cultivate trainees to have a mindset to give back to the society. We do free concerts for hospitals, orphanages and many more welfare societies. If time is a concern, we would go to around CheongDamDong, which is near our office, to litter-pick. Also, because of the frequent visits overseas, we would teach them culture and etiquette of each country. Since we can’t afford to make mistakes. We teach sex education and provide counselling services on a regular basis. Although these may seem minor, it is important for trainees who debut at a later stage, so that they can grow into artists that do not forget about their priorities. An artist who has excellent techniques will fall if their inner self is not cultivate properly.”

– If you were to describe KPOP’s future?

“I think that KPOP has a bright prospect. Although it has slowed down in the Japan market, there are teams that are achieving consistent results. The direction in Japan my seem uncertain for now, but I do not think that it will drop further. Due to political matters, the fandom could have decreased, but the remained are loyal fans. Other than Japan, the opportunity to expand is limitless, we have China, South East Asia and even Europe for us to explore further.

– What about the future of Cube Entertainment?

“We will be delivering many favorable news. In particular in regards to the new overseas market. First of all, BEAST and 4minute have captivated the South East Asia market since their debut. Although BEAST has lesser promotions in Japan due to local activities for the time being, their new single ‘Adrenaline’ has charted #2 on Oricon charts. With passionate responses from Japan, we will deliver more news on Japan activities in the second half-year. Also, do anticipate BTOB and the upcoming rookies’ activities.”

– Will you be diversifying your business like SM or YG in the future?

“Yes. Just, in order to maintain sustainability and to improve our business success rate, we will prepare more earnestly first (before doing so). Through our cooperation with iHQ, do expect our synergy in drama productions too. Cube Cafe are currently in works to enter into the foreign market. We wish to come up with more fun and exciting things.”

[FEATURE] K-Pop Album Recall: BEAST Rapper Yong Junhyung Shows Another Side Of Himself On The 2013 EP 'Flower'

The 24-year-old South Korean rapper Yong Junhyung began his career with the K-pop boy band BEAST in 2009. But back in December, Junhyung (as he is known to BEAST fans) put out a very different type of record.

"Flower" is Junhyung's first album released as a solo artist, and he's clearly gunning for an older, more hardcore hip-hop crowd beyond his chart-topping band's legions of loyal followers. "Flower" breaks away from the glossy pop BEAST is known for and gets into some more modern and sophisticated sounds.

One of the cool things about hip-hop records is that they've always been a great space for the merging of different musical and production styles. "Flower" is no exception.

A comparison could be made with Frank Ocean's first studio album "channel ORANGE," or the ever-present Kanye West style of hip-hop production, where the musical choices are as important as the rapping, the production is understated--even subdued--and the cadence of the rapping is conversational, rather than barked.

If "Flower" has a discernible fault, it's that the record errs on the side of 90s summer jams. There's something just a little too laid back and mellow about the whole thing. To add to this fact, the raps are a bit croony at times, and often the drums lack some of those club-banging subharmonics.

Though some of the sounds are a bit cheesy or out of context, like the slap bass that sneaks up on you on the title track or the overly breathy backing vocals on "Slow," the overall sonic picture for the record is much hipper and grittier than anything you'd expect from a BEAST band member.

The first track "Nothing is Forever," features some really crackly drums sounds and a super satanic octavized vocal double. And the same title track with the aforementioned slap bass also features a crunchy Rhodes piano sound in the main keyboard part, a welcome break from BEAST's synth-lite arrangements.

The horn line in the outro is straight out of the Outkast playbook.

"Flower" also dips into some really legit 90s vibes, like the "Mary J. Blige Does K-pop" kind of hook on "Anything." Guest vocalist G. Na kills it.

On the whole, Yong Junhyung as a solo artist comes off as dark and moody, even for a BEAST member, but with an edge his bandmates can't claim. Perhaps this is the dawn of a new chapter in Junhyung's musical development. Either way, "Flower" is an album that it is worth stopping to enjoy.
